Super Strength

So, Ryne has impressed us all by his super human strength. He already rolls onto his side to sleep! Then, when you put him on his tummy, he tries to crawl! He pulls up his legs and can actually move forward! He just can't pull himself up on his arms.

Silly little man.

Unidentified Illness

Addison woke up on Thursday (7/22) with this unidentified rash/burn on both her right and left thighs. The part on the left of the picture has these really big bumps (can't really see because this pic is taken with my phone). It looked like a TON of huge bug bites or big blisters. The odd thing is that it looked exactly the same on both legs. 

I called the pedi first thing, but of course I couldn't get in until 2:10 because it wasn't an emergency. Addison wasn't running a fever or acting any different than usual. She just kept saying, "Addison have lots of bug bites".  I, of course, was freaking out!


So, waiting all day was killing me. I decided to ask on the local parenting board and see if it looked familar to anyone. Big mistake. I didn't get a lot of responses, but one woman said that it looked like Fifths Disease. I hadn't heard of it before, so of course I googled it. Big mistake #2. Addison definitely fit most of the signs/symptoms. She had had very red cheeks the day before, and neither Tim or myself could figure out what happened. She went to bed that night in nothing but a pull-up (it gets warm in her room), hadn't had any different foods, I haven't changed detergent, etc. 


I kept reading. The more I read, the more I was convinced that she had Fifths Disease. I wouldn't have been terribly freaked out, but of course it stated that it could be potentially fatal to pregnant women. EEK! So, then I started freaking out! I called my OB and talked to his nurse. They said that I should be fine, because if it is Fifths Disease, then A.) I should be in the clear because it is most harmful to newly pregnant women and B.) I should be immune to it, because I have previously had the chicken pox. THANK GOODNESS! They decided that I didn't need to come in, but I should just keep them posted if anything changes.


So, Tim came home and we set off for the pedi. We didn't find out much. They ruled out Fifths Disease, but couldn't really give us a definite answer. They asked the usual allergies questions, and I ruled most of them out. They said it could be a possible insect bite, etc. In the end, they decided it was probably some viral infection that would just have to run its course. While we were on our way to the pedi, my OB called and asked that I come in for some blood work, so we could rule out Fifths Disease in myself. 


Thankfully, by that evening Addison was looking better. Her spots came and went the next day, but she has been spot free for 2 days now (*knock on wood*). Yay!
